The Canon Pixma TR8620 is an inkjet all-in-one with office features. It has a 20-page automated document feeder (ADF), a duplexer for two-sided printing, and 2 paper trays for maintaining 2 kinds of paper at the ready.

Unlike many of the best all-in-one printers, the TR8620 uses 5 ink cartridges, with 2 kinds of black: one for documents (pigment-based) and the various other for shiny picture prints (dye-based). The various other 3 inks are the standard cyan, magenta and yellow.

The TR8620 is also equipped with a duplexer for two-sided printing and supports wise home integration with Amazon.com Alexa and Google Aide. We suched as it a lot, we called it among the best printers in our 2021 Tom’s Guide Honors.

The TR8620 has a big 4.3-inch colour touchscreen on its control board, which joints upward 90 levels. The body measures 17.3 inches by 13.8 inches (decoration) by 7.5 inches (h). This is relatively typical of a home inkjet all-in-one. Although the official deepness with paper packed is 14.4 inches, I found that with the back tray slanted back and packed with paper, and the output tray extended with the capture folded up ahead, the total deepness enhanced to 26 inches. Print rates on ordinary paper were slightly much faster compared to average. The TR8620 published our five-page text document in 32.6 secs (or, 9.2 ppm) versus the average of 8.8 ppm for comparable models. Similarly, the TR8620 published our six-page document of mixed text and colour video in 1 min, 52 secs (or, 3.2 ppm) compared with the average of 2 mins, 13 secs (or, 2.7 ppm).

One of the most outstanding print speeds got on shiny pictures. The TR8620 published a letter-sized picture on shiny paper in simply 2 mins and 4 seconds—roughly fifty per cent of the average time of 4 mins and 3 secs. Using its automated duplexer, the TR8620 made two-sided text prints at a reputable speed of 3.1 ppm. The TR8620 made two-sided prints of our colour PDF at 2.3 ppm. As with two-sided text prints, there was a 14-second pause before printing started on the second side of each web page. Again, the Brother MFC-J995DW was much faster, producing two-sided text/color video prints at 3 ppm, while the HP Envy 7855 was significantly slower, at 1.2 ppm.

Fast copying is probably the TR8620’s best workplace ability. From the flatbed, the TR8620 duplicated a shade document in 20.5 seconds—much much faster compared to the 28.7-second average. It duplicated a web page of text in 10.8 secs, which was significantly much faster compared to the average of 16 secs. Comparative, the Editor’s Choice TS9120 was slower at producing a message copy (at 14 seconds), but much faster to earn a shade copy, at 17.3 secs. The HP Envy 7855 was slower in both tests, at 15.7 secs and 24.1 secs, specifically, while the Brother MFC-J995DW, was slower to copy text (12.7 seconds), but much faster to copy colour documents (15.1 secs).

Using its ADF, the TR8620 duplicated a five-page text document in 45 secs or 6.7 ppm. The Brother MFC-J995DW was slightly much faster, at 7 ppm.

The TR8620 doesn’t offer automated duplex scanning and copying. Instead, it offers manual duplex copying and scanning, where the user places the document in the ADF two times: Once for each side. It is easy to follow the on-screen LCD instructions, which show you how to orient the document so the second scan is properly driven.

The Pixma TR8620 duplicated a 10-page text document (5 double-sheets) in 5 mins, or 2 ppm, not checking the moment it required to reinsert the document in the ADF. Comparative, the Brother MFC-J805DW, which does offer automated duplex copying, was significantly much faster, producing two-sided text duplicates at 3.1 ppm.

The TR8620 was much faster compared to the average at scanning both colour pictures and documents. It checked an 8-by-10 picture and conserved it as a 600 dpi JPEG in 59 secs, much faster compared to the average of 65.8 secs. Comparative, the Canon TS9120 and Brother MFC-J995DW were significantly much faster, at 37.8 and 38.5 secs, specifically.

The same held true of black-and-white scanning to PDF style at 300 dpi. The TR8620 caught a scan in 8.8 secs, which was much faster compared to the average of 11 secs. The Canon TS9120 made the same scan in 7.7 secs.

The TR8620 offers high print quality overall, printing text that’s adequately dark. The sides appear is relatively sharp, although the letterforms could be sleeker. Colour videos are attractive, with accurate shades and structures, although some mild banding was noticeable in dark locations.

Shiny pictures print with top-quality precision: Natural-looking shades, sharp information and smooth shifts.

Copy quality readied overall. Duplicates recreated the information and shades of the initial documents relatively well: Video closely resembled the originals, and the text looked slightly lumpier about the sides. Duplicates of text documents fed via the ADF, particularly, brought out letterforms that looked fatter and had sides that weren’t as sharp as the recreations put on the flatbed.

One anomaly to copy quality, however, was that when copying from the control board, the zoom function offered no option to focus on a side or select the copy location. Consequently, the top part of my document obtained cut off in the duplicates, rather than omitting the empty white space from the copy. To properly copy this particular document, I used the Canon IJ Scan energy on my PC, which offers this feature.

Similarly, conducting our scan tests required doing so from a PC, where we could set the resolution in the scanning software. The on-screen menus of the TR8620 don’t offer scan resolution setups.

Scan quality was high. Information looked sharp and shades were caught accurately from the originals. Particularly, the checks of a photo with dark dark locations retained a great deal of detail—more information compared to the Editor’s Choice Canon TS9120 did.

The TR8620 uses 5 ink cartridges. The 3 colors (cyan, magenta and yellow) inks and the black inks are dye-based. Additionally, pigment-based black ink is used for printing documents on ordinary paper, while the color black is mainly used on shiny picture prints.

Using a standard cartridge, the cost each text web page is 8 cents. This computation consists of just the pigment black ink. The XL black cartridge decreases text printing to 6.2 cents each web page, and the XXL cartridge decreases it further, to 5.8 cents.

The total ink cost for mixed colour video web pages is 21.9 cents, using standard cartridges. For this total cost of a message/mixed colour video web page, we consisted of the cost of the dye-based black ink. It is hardly used on ordinary paper prints, just including 0.7 cents for each web page, at most. For instance, the equally valued Brother INKvestment MFC-J995DW (our top-ranked all-in-one printer) offers a lot lower costs for each web page and much faster document printing, but the Canon Pixma TR8620 is a lot much faster for shiny picture prints. If you are buying a printer primarily to print pictures, the Canon Pixma TR8620 is the better choice.
